The sweltering heat of summer has arrived on our beautiful Treasure Coast of Florida. Glasses of homemade lemonade, and even outdoor circulation fans, do not seem to be doing the trick… There are one or two successful alternatives to withstanding the suffocating heat and humidity of southern Florida. The most gratifying: taking a dip in your backyard swimming pool. If scheduling permits it, spend as much time as possible poolside. Summertime and pools go together like peanut butter and jelly. Is your backyard ready for all this traffic? Does your outdoor living space measure up to your standards? Do you need to freshen up your tropical pool landscaping? Join the club! There are a few simple renovations that can assure your backyard transforms nicely into your ideal custom tropical pool landscaping…

Recently, we completed a landscape project that really illustrates some options for renovating your backyard pool landscape. This project took place in Port Saint Lucie, Florida. Our clients wanted their landscape design to reflect their need for landscaping that was child-safe, consideration of their desire to entertain, and also keeping within the realm of low maintenance landscaping. Ultimately, they wanted to be able to enjoy their surroundings while spending a lot of their free time at home this summer.

To achieve this tropical pool landscaping, there were a large variety of palm trees chosen for this project. These choices included a Christmas palm, Bottle palms, Foxtail palms, a Triangle palm, European Fan palms, and also a Dwarf Swindle palm. The palm trees all added their own touch of character and texture to the landscape project. From the clean curves of the Bottle palms to the bold and bushy definition of the Foxtail palms, these palm trees worked very well together in this landscape design.  For more on palm trees, visit our Plant of the Week: Florida Palm Tree BLOG.

Flora Nora and Dwarf Pentas fulfilled a need for color, while a few Flat Fan Iris‘ did the same, but added a delicate, yet significant accent to the planting beds. Bright and vivid pink Pentas were used near a fire pit seating area that had been part of the landscape transformation. The pink Pentas helped to identify the space better. All in all, this tropical pool landscaping really opened up this outdoor living space. The landscape design accomplished aesthetics and functionality. Our clients have since reported that they are receiving endless compliments. More importantly, they are putting this outdoor living space to good use.
