Tropical Pool Planting for Backyard Landscaping in Melbourne, FL

This exquisite landscaping in Melbourne, FL truly signifies the capabilities of Construction Landscape. This backyard landscape alone has utilized the exotic and bold color palettes of Hawaii, Fiji, and most other getaway destination within the Tropics. Florida has its’ own tropical color scheme, but this project and all of its’ elements of landscaping in Melbourne just radiates with an island ambience.

This vision of design for this landscaping in Melbourne was not always so clear, but our clients came to our firm with a list of needs to be met, and that was all that we needed! After a consultation and an assessment, our landscape designer found key target areas that needed to be addressed as well. For instance, there was an unhealthy tone to grass. We would remove and replace with new sod, but more than likely there were zoning issues with their irrigation system. Sod and grass areas are the foundation for most outdoor living spaces, so their appearance and upkeep plays a vital role. We made a note that the designated seating area and other backyard features seemed to give a crowded feel to this landscape, which in turn was distracting to its’ full potential. This was a very negative disadvantage, considering the landscape was almost bare! It was dually noted that their above-ground pool was an asset to their outdoor activities, but its’ appearance also needed an upgrade. The layout in this garden design would definitely benefit from a landscape that complimented and softened the presence of the pool and other protruding maintenance tools. The existing white privacy fencing was an element of landscape architecture that would prove to be a beautiful backdrop once the landscape installation was complete.

BEFORE

AFTER

After consideration of necessary aesthetic improvements for the stationary elements within the layout of the space, the accents and features to really complete this landscaping in Melbourne were ready to be built around them. An earthy brick paver selection with terra-cotta tones was made to invite accessibility and use of the landscape features. A screen that matched the existing privacy fencing was installed to segregate the box from the clear view of the backyard. A layer of contrasting foliage was put in to line the facade of the house and fence line, as well as curvature edging layered with white river rock to soften the sharp angles and uninviting lack of depth.

Around the pool area, the landscape takes on a Fiji-style planting, with rich red tones of the Lobster claw Heliconia magnifying the earth tones of the white river rock and implementing a clean contrast in the landscape design. The Malibu orange blossoms of the Hibiscus tree present a key colorsplash that softens, as well as defines the flow of the landscape. The depth of color almost transgresses from deep red of the Dwarf Maui Ixora, through the reds of the Heliconia and the orange of the Hibiscus, so the blue blossoms of the Royal Robe tree are met smoothly.
